Welcome to 2050

We are all miraculously still here. Our existence continues to be under the microscope of the reality vs simulation debate. Public opinion seems to sway towards the latter, but it’s still up in the air. Our continents have moved closer together once again thanks to the advent of global warming, although we have developed new technologies to deal with it. A large cooling system now powers the entirety of the earth through the summer months, which, just thirty years ago, were considered unbearable to many. Now, they’re just like the spring.

Thanks to this movement of the earth, technologies have gotten stronger and we’re all closer together. It no longer takes five minutes for your teenage crush to respond to your risky text; instead, they can instantly have their mind read by the various technological devices that we carry around each day. Yes, all along, the smartwatch was just a front to connect the network to one’s body, to capture even more information about them and consider the upside to impact someone.

This all had a very moving effect on Alex Althon, a 40-year-old from Australia. As one who previously was isolated from much of the rest of civilization (thanks to the unfortunate placement of his continent), he reveled in the discovery of these new technologies which, at the time, would have seemed unthinkable. As an insurance salesman, he always wanted to know whether 15 minutes would really save 15% or more on car insurance, or whether it was all just a marketing front. Before the day everything changed, every day he woke up and pondered this question. He wanted to know how he could be better at his job, and what could do it.

What happens?
